FYB Yoga Therapy (Advanced Yoga) Program

The International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT) reviews the curriculums and lists Yoga Therapy Programs around the world, (e.g., USA, India, Europe, Australia, etc.).  FYB (Feel Your Best)® is one of a total of 23 such listed programs.

Yoga Therapy is both a healing science and art, requiring active participation and exploration of both the therapist and the client.  Those interested in Yoga Therapy range from people with health challenges, to those seeking injury rehabilitation, to those who simply wish to significantly deepen their personal practices in a way that is not possible within a group setting.

Yoga Therapy is not intended to replace traditional medical care, but rather to complement it, as well as facilitate a preventative approach to healthcare and overall well-being.  As therapists, we seek to address individuals with a "whole-person" focus:  Physical, mental, emotional, lifestyle, and spiritual, in order to create system-wide harmony.

Are you  interested in the profession of Yoga Therapy?  Would you like to significantly deepen your own personal practice and strengthen its influence on your health and well-being, as well as others health and well-being?  Then the FYB Yoga Therapy (Advanced Yoga) Program is for you!

The FYB History, Philosophy and Mission

FYB (Feel Your Best)® Yoga, a multi-style discipline, was designed so that all people can experience the numerous benefits of a personalized Yoga practice.  FYB Yoga is for everyone, not just those who are physically flexible, healthy and free of injury or medical conditions.  Thus the FYB philosophy and trademarked slogan "The Person, Not The Pose"® was born.  FYB Yoga, a Yoga Alliance recognized style, was founded in 1995, by Debra Mundt, E-RYT500, CPT, IAYT, YHP, RCYP.  It is taught with fun and gentle guidance, and in a non-intimidating manner.

FYB Instructors and FYB Practitioners are located throughout the USA and two continents.

FYB (Feel Your Best)® Yoga Therapy approaches Yoga Therapy from a perspective of client-directed healing, rather than therapist-directed "cure".  Therapist and client work together through initial intake, ongoing assessment tools, and methods of healing that are specific to the client's needs.  This FYB process is one of psychological, physical and spiritual empowerment.  FYB (Feel Your Best)® Yoga Therapy truly embraces a "whole-person" approach.

"The Person, Not The Pose"®:  Just as our philosophy for teaching yoga, "The Person, Not The Pose"®, holds true ... so does our philosophy for teaching teachers.  At FYB, we get to know you as an individual within a group setting, with fun and gentle guidance, and in a non-intimidating manner.

"FYB was exactly what I needed.  I feel more equipped, more confident, and more in love and in awe of yoga than I ever imagined I would be." - J.L.

The Program

The FYB Yoga Therapy (Advanced Yoga) Program consists of two components:

Overview of the Program

FYB’s course curriculum is evolutionary, in that we strive to offer the most current, complete, comprehensive information.  Our curriculum is based on continual and ongoing research and revision, as well as feedback from FYB students, FYB graduates, and employers in the Yoga industry.

The FYB Yoga Therapy Program involves classroom clock time (contact hours) as well as home study (non-contact hours).

Core Curriculum:  Weekend classes are held for 10 weekends (every other month) for 20 months (and may be available in an intensive format). Home study is completed in between the first 8 weekends.

Workshops / Electives:   A total of 12 workshops are required to complete your FYB Yoga Therapy (Advanced Yoga) Program. Workshops vary from 2 to 12 hours in length; therefore, occasionally some workshops will be combined into a full day, weekend, and / or around the core curriculum dates, for the sake of scheduling convenience.  Each workshop is offered at least once per year, and you may begin taking them anytime (in no particular order). You may take up to two years to complete the required number of workshops for the program (therefore, you will have at least two opportunities to complete each workshop).

FYB's Yoga Therapy Program (500 hour) curriculum exceeds the standards set forth by the Yoga Alliance (www.YogaAlliance.org), and is approved as a 500-hour School.  After you have successfully completed the program, and completed 100 hours of teaching experience (on your own, following the program), you will automatically qualify for the Yoga Alliance designation of "RYT 500" (Registered Yoga Teacher at the 500-hour level).

FYB is a strong advocate of both the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT) and the Yoga Alliance.  FYB also supports their establishment of minimum educational standards for Yoga Therapists and Yoga Teachers.  The health and safety of yoga students is of paramount importance to all FYB trained instructors.  We promote the expansion of more highly qualified Yoga Therapists and Yoga Teachers throughout the world, through our established IAYT - Approved and Yoga Alliance - Registered Yoga School.

"The hands-on knowledge that I received, to make yoga safe and accessible to everyone, is amazing.  The teaching methodology taught here really makes sense, and takes much of the fear of the unknown out of teaching." - T.M.

*  The Workshops give you the freedom to choose between several workshops that are of interest to you (as well as several that are required).  You may begin the workshops at any time, and complete them in any order, over the course of two years.

You need not be enrolled in the Yoga Therapy (Advanced Yoga) Program to attend workshops; they may be taken as Continuing Education for anyone with a 200-hour Yoga certification (FYB or any other approved program), space permitting.  However, for the workshops to count toward your RYT 500 through the FYB Yoga Therapy (Advanced Yoga) Program, you must be accepted into the program and complete all required elements within two years.
