The
Yoga Industry: “Trends That We See”
Has this scenario ever happened to you?
Alice
is a regular student who approaches you after one of your Yoga classes.
She has recently injured her knee, and you have been providing
modifications for her during your classes. Today she says, “What can you recommend to help my knee heal
more quickly? Is there
anything I can do to speed the process?”
Not being trained in anything beyond modifications, you either:
A) Look at her like a deer caught in the headlights, or B) Tell
her to “honor her body” during classes, and avoid anything painful.
Let’s assume the same scenario, but slightly different:
Alice: “What can you recommend
to help my knee heal more quickly? Is
there anything I can do to speed the process?”
You:
“Absolutely! Let’s
set up a private session to determine your goals, assess range of motion
and strength, and begin to create a treatment plan to rehabilitate the
knee and prevent re-injury.” This
begins a private session relationship with Alice, who is thrilled with
the results of seeing you on a weekly basis, and consequently refers a
friend to you for private sessions as well.
Bottom
line: By teaching Private
Therapeutic Yoga sessions, you:
-
Can earn up to 4 times more than teaching a group
class
-
Stand out from the sea of Yoga teachers who have little to
no certification, and
RYT 200's
and E-RYT's who are not specially trained in therapeutics
-
Have a dependable income flow (substantially higher than
teaching group classes)
-
Have no expenses for renting space (as you can teach in
private residences, and need little space) ... or if you own a
studio and are already renting space, substantially increase your
studio income, and
The
Yoga Industry--Today
Two things are occurring:
-
With the greater presence of better trained teachers (due
to an increase in RYT Training and continuing education
workshops), the level of skills has increased for teachers in just about
all teaching
venues.
-
Unless
a teacher really brings a "special" knowledge to their
teaching, the public rarely perceives a significant skill
set difference between most teachers.
-
It
has become, in many respects, a choice of the personal traits of
one teacher over another ... and the presentation skills of one
teacher over another.
-
Since
there is a lack of differentiation in the publics' mind ...
"class time and location" are often the key factors in
the decision making process.
2.
There is a significant shift in public preference towards
yoga teachers who have
“specialized”
knowledge and skills in
contraindications, modifications and strong presentation skills (all
areas in which FYB excels).
The trend towards Private
Therapeutic Yoga Sessions
The demand for Private Yoga Sessions is growing at an
exponentially higher rate than that for Group Yoga Classes.
-
The
majority of Private Yoga Sessions are Therapeutic-Based Private Yoga
Sessions. Private Yoga Teachers should have a great
understanding (though this is not always the case) of medical
conditions, contraindications, injury adaptation, and asana
appropriateness.
The financial benefits for
Private Therapeutic Yoga Session Teachers
·
The pay scale for Private Yoga Sessions is much greater
than that for Group Yoga Classes.
In
the eyes of the public, the Private Yoga teacher is a “Specialist”
and therefore is due substantially higher compensation.
Income flow is more dependable as well.
·
A full-time studio or facility is not necessary for
Private Yoga Sessions. Pay-By-Use facilities are often used.
For example, many of the following offer rental space by the hour (it
reduces their overhead expenses): Chiropractic Facilities,
Physical Therapist Facilities, Yoga Studios, Pilates Studios, Fitness
Facilities (Health Clubs, Women's Clubs), Etc. Private Yoga
Sessions are very inexpensive to offer and very lucrative, especially
considering the substantially increased compensation.
·
Private Yoga Session Clients are very loyal repeat
clients. They have a
specific need that you are fulfilling.
A strong trust relationship is built between the Private Yoga
Teacher and the client.
The
Yoga Industry--Tomorrow
·
The natural law of “Supply and Demand” applies to
yoga, as it does to everything else.
Sooner or later, someone will meet the demands of the
public…demands for significant knowledge about contraindications,
modifications and strong presentation skills.
Those yoga teachers who “supply” the skills that meet the
“demands” of the public will be in demand. They will be much more successful than other teachers who do not
have the same in-depth knowledge and skills. They
will be much more successful in both their personal and financial
satisfaction.
·
Additionally, looking at the yoga industry regulatory
bodies … it is interesting that the Chairperson of the Yoga Alliance
Standards Committee is also President of the International Association
of Yoga Therapists (IAYT). And,
that the Yoga Alliance and IAYT have a very close relationship. Why do
you suppose?
·
Last January’s IAYT Symposium on Yoga Therapy and Research
was quickly sold out.
Where
is FYB in all of this?
Already, FYB is internationally
recognized as a very select Teacher Training School that emphasizes the
skill sets that empower graduates to be able to teach yoga to all
students whom the graduates may come across “in the real world”.
The
International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT) reviews the
curriculums and lists Yoga Therapy Programs around the world, (e.g., USA,
India, Europe, Australia, etc.). FYB (Feel Your Best)® is
one of a total of twenty-three such listed programs.
At the 200 hr. RYT level, because of
Yoga Alliance regulated course content and time constraints, we cannot
go into as much depth ... as we would like.
At the 500 hr. level (an additional 300 hrs. beyond the 200 hr.
level), FYB is able to go into great depth and provide an amazing level
of understanding and comfort with the therapeutic aspects of yoga.
The therapeutic aspects that will greatly help you in your career
of helping others through yoga.
The FYB 500 hr. Program is Therapeutic Yoga-based and will
empower you with the knowledge and skills that you need to be a
successful and viable yoga teacher Tomorrow, whether that be in Group
Classes, or in the high growth and lucrative (personally and
financially) Private Session Yoga area.

Therapy (Advanced Yoga) Program - Overview
-
"Latte-A-Day"™
2 Year Tuition Plan. FYB
is trailblazing new and innovative paths within the yoga teacher
training industry. In the spirit of giving first, FYB is
reaching within and is making the attainment of your goals very
affordable with your budget.
Tuition options are available … including the "Latte-A-Day"™
2 Year Tuition Plan. It is a one-of-a-kind tuition program that no one else in the entire yoga
industry offers!
*
Due to the Yoga Alliance regulated course content and the time
constraints of a 200 Hr. RYT Yoga Program, along with each schools
chosen teaching emphasis … for
most RYT programs, medical contraindications, appropriate asanas and
modifications receive only a very limited portion of the educational
process. The good news is
that the Yoga Alliance encourages Advanced Yoga Training (e.g. 500 Hr.
Programs) for teachers to learn more advanced material.
