Top PTT FAQs

As we near the beginning of our next Pilates Teacher Training program, we thought it would be fun to list the top questions we received at FYB about our PTT program.

Q) Do I have to pay for the whole thing at once?
A) Absolutely not!  We have many payment options available to you, including credit card payments, installment payment programs, and split programs.  Occasionally, FYB also offers discounts for early-bird registration, final 60 days registration (space permitting), and/or bring-a-friend discounts; call for details.

Q) Do I have to be an experienced Pilates practitioner to sign up for the training?
A)  Not at all...many of our most successful graduates have minimal experience in pilates prior to beginning the training. We have found that the key to success does not lie in whether or not you are currently teaching.   (About 30% of the attendees in our training program already teach, most with minimal to no certification).  Also, the key to success is not found in whether you've been practicing for a brief period of time, or for several years. Rather, the true key to success comes from having an open mind to new ideas and the internal desire that you have to share your passion for pilates with others!

Q) What if I already have many of the required books?
A) No problem! You can purchase the remaining books through FYB at 10% off (when you enroll in the program, you receive 10% off all FYB products, including pilates accessories, CDs, clothing, aromatherapy, and more!), or pick them up on your own (good sources are Amazon.com, or Borders books).

Q) I'm coming from out of state. Where will I stay? Are there local restaurants?
A) Our business staff can recommend some lodging options for you, at all price points, from hotels to hosted in-home stays. FYB (Feel Your Best) is at a major intersection in Mequon, and there are many restaurant options for lunches and dinners, as well as shopping, bookstores, and coffee houses (you will have a nice break every day, midday, to take some time for yourself).

Q) What makes your program different than others that are available?
A) Of course, there are many choices available for you to receive your Certified Pilates Teacher (CPT) designation (which we at FYB believe is of great importance).  And many of those programs are excellent! What makes FYB different is our philosophy--"The Person, Not the Pose"® -- a philosophy that we bring into our FYB classes, as well as into our FYB Pilates and Yoga Teacher Training Programs.

At FYB, our master instructors get to know the students in the training program, as the ratio of instructors to students is one we choose to keep low. That means more individualized attention for you, the student, and time for questions, review, and feedback. Our programs are constantly being refined based on feedback we receive from our students and instructors...your opinion counts!

Most importantly, our focus during the training is on the students that you will encounter once you begin teaching: the general public ... including special needs populations.  At FYB, we believe that ANYONE can practice pilates!  And, we believe that pilates is not a "One Size Fits All" discipline.  As such, our program has an emphasis on moderation and modifications--"the 2 M's".  In the FYB Program, you will learn how to modify pilates exercises to multiple situations, ages, body types, and special needs.

With an aging population, pilates practitioners often have issues such as high blood pressure, arthritis, stress, knee / back / shoulder injuries, etc. Many programs don't take this into consideration.  However at FYB we know that most pilates classes don't consist entirely of fit, healthy 20-somethings ... so we provide our Teacher Trainees with the knowledge to teach to all populations! Again, at FYB, it's "The Person, Not the Pose"®. Upon graduation, you will have learned how to interact with your students and their needs, treating each one as an individual, even within a group setting.

Finally, you will have the opportunity to choose your own elective at FYB.  Choose a topic that you're interested in, one that you want to learn more about!  Many programs select your elective hours for you; we allow you to create your own individualized focus!

Q) I'm a little concerned about spending 8+ hours a day doing Pilates! What if I can't do it?
A) Hey, we're with you! No one wants to do 8+ hours of ANYTHING in a day! At FYB, we practice what we preach, which is moderation! During the training, we do a nice job with balancing active sessions with lectures, and always allow plenty of time for breaks to "re-charge your batteries"!

Q) I'm coming from out of town, and don't want to drive. Is there a train that comes near FYB? How about an airport? Can someone pick me up?
A) Of course! Amtrak has a station in downtown Milwaukee, just about 15 minutes from FYB. Mitchell International Airport is a 25-minute drive. We would be happy to arrange transportation (on us!) from either location for you, and some local hotels will provide shuttle service to and from FYB during the training.
